Visconti Homo Sapiens Bronze Age: Is It Worth the Hype?
Original video: Visconti Homo Sapiens - Problems - Don't Make This Mistake
I tried to hold off on buying new fountain pens, but Fountain Pen Day changed that—I ended up with three! One of them is a grail pen for many people: the Visconti Homo Sapiens Bronze Age. After using it for a while, I have mixed feelings.
First Impressions
This pen is famous for its lava-infused resin body, giving it a soft, textured feel. It’s heavier than most pens but well-balanced, especially when unposted. The bronze hardware will develop a patina over time, making it unique to its owner. The vacuum filling system and hook-safe locking cap are also great features.
Writing Experience
The 18k gold nib should be incredible, but mine was too dry out of the box. Instead of returning it, I tuned it myself, and now it writes beautifully with a slight bounce. This seems to be a common issue with Visconti pens, so if you’re considering one, I highly recommend buying from a retailer that will check the nib before shipping.
Final Thoughts
Now that I’ve adjusted the nib, this pen is amazing, and I plan to use it daily alongside my Lamy 2000. But for such a high price, quality control should be better. If this pen is on your wishlist, get it from a reputable store that offers nib checks—Atlas Stationers is a great option.
Would I buy it again? Yes, but with the expectation that some tuning might be needed. Let me know in the comments—do you own a Visconti Homo Sapiens? What’s your experience?
