Hey everyone, today, we're diving into the intriguing world of fountain pens. This whole "#8Questions" trend on social media has been gaining traction, so I thought, why not bring it to our fountain pen community? We recently did something similar with guitar stuff on our podcast, and it was a blast. Maybe we'll explore pocket knives next—I'm open to suggestions!

So, let's embark on this journey together. I'll answer eight questions about my fountain pen journey and then give you a peek into my fountain pen collection. Sound good? Let's dive in.

  1. When and how did your fountain pen journey begin?

    • Well, it all started with my love for pocket knives. As a collector of various tools and gadgets, I stumbled upon fountain pens while visiting a Mont Blanc store in Las Vegas. Curiosity piqued, I ordered a Lamy Safari from Amazon, and after the first writing session, I was hooked.

  2. What were your favorite inks initially, and what are your go-to inks now?

    • Initially, I was all about black ink, but a friend introduced me to Pilot Iroshizuku Kiri-Same, and I fell in love with it. My daily writer is a vintage Mont Blanc 220 inked with Pilot Iroshizuku Kiri-Same. I've also developed a fondness for Sailor ink, particularly Sailor Jentle Yama-Dori.

  3. How have your ink and pen tastes changed over time?

    • Initially, I favored utilitarian pens, but over time, I've come to appreciate the artistry behind fountain pens. I'm drawn to Japanese craftsmanship and keen to explore pens made with materials like Ebonite and Arushi.

  4. Are there inks and pens you have yet to try but would like to?

    • Absolutely! I'm eager to try a Visconti Homo Sapiens and delve into Japanese-made pens like the Nakaya Emperor. The world of fountain pens offers endless possibilities, and I'm eager to explore them all.

  5. What is your Holy Grail pen?

    • My dream pen would be a Nakaya Emperor. Its exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail make it a truly remarkable piece.

  6. How many pens do you currently own?

    • I believe I have around 22 fountain pens and a dozen or so ballpoint pens. My collection continues to grow, albeit gradually.

  7. Do you have a limit on pens, and when do you know you've reached your max?

    • While I don't have a strict limit, I believe in using and appreciating every pen in my collection. I prioritize functionality over accumulation, ensuring that each pen serves a purpose.

  8. What would you do when another fountain pen and ink comes along?

    • If I find a pen or ink that interests me and aligns with my preferences, I'd certainly add it to my collection. I'm always open to discovering and sharing new favorites with fellow enthusiasts.
